Mood Board Apropos

When it comes to rocking styles that unleash our inner spirit, there’s more to finding the perfect outfit than simply browsing the best-selling tops and dresses on your favorite online shops. Sometimes we need to turn to aspects that inspire us the most to enhance our online style. But how can we take our fashion inspirations and transform them from a vision into our next fabulous outfit? The best way to bring your fashion ideas to life and create a comprehensive wardrobe that fully expresses your visualizations is to create a mood-board.

What is a mood-board?

Think of your favorite celebrities and the stylists they depend on to keep them looking their best. Celebrity’s like how Petra Flannery found Emma Stone the perfect pants for the Golden Globe Awards or how Leith Clarke is Keira Knightly’s go-to girl.

How do they organize their ideas so they can properly craft them into the works of art we crave to make apart of our attire? A mood-board is a strategy designers and stylists alike use to merge their ideas into one amazing design or look. It is a collage consisting of fragments of inspiration from images, color schemes, textures, patterns, fabric, and other samples you want to combine. It could be in the form of a physical model or created digitally. You could use anything you think of from a blog article to an old photograph of your mom’s oversized sun-glasses from the 1970’s.

Your imagination is the limit here.

Illustrate the style you wish to bring to life.

Now that you know what a mood-board is, you’re probably wondering how you can dive into the fun part and get yourself started on creating one. As we previously stated, there are two ways you can go about crafting your mood-board– digitally or physically.

If you’re more of an online person, there are some easy, free tools you can use to for an extravagant collage you can access at any time from well-known sites like Pinterest to Canva to those on the rise like Niice and GoMoodBoard. Each site allows you to start with a blank template, drag and drop options for listing your inspirations, and are compatible with mobile devices. So you can access your mood-board anytime anywhere along with many more awesome features to make your visual absolutely stunning.

The second approach is more time-consuming but well worth it if a physical model is a better way to get your ideas rolling. Find yourself a base whether it be a piece of paper, poster board, or even a picture frame. Then collect every physical copy you have of your ideas and inspirations from pieces of fabric to printed pictures of outfits from your favorite movies to magazine cutouts of the celebrities you look up to and glue them to your base once you’ve arranged them in a beautiful display. To bring more texture and appeal to your board, feel free to add beads, buttons, crystals, colors, and other unique elements that represent your personality and take things up a notch by referencing different shapes and forms, simple or complex, that amplify your ideas. But the most important part is to have fun with this!

Inspiration is everywhere as long as you know how to find it.

If you’re having trouble unlocking your inner inspirations, there are some awesome places to search for online styling ideas. Look to movies, television shows, catalogs, magazines, and runway releases. Browse through old photographs, people watch while sitting at your local café, or turn to the celebrities and as always, keeps your eyes on successful style blogs, like ours!
